Honestly the refurbishment has turned this little gem of a museum to no more than a few shelves of stuffed animals, many of them don't even have the names of the animals on them, and there's no fun facts that will make people interested in them. Further to that some of the animals are now behind opaque boards with small, low level peep holes...which make them inaccessible to people with mobility issues, even a bad back I couldn't see them.
Its important to get kids interested in the natural world, but changing a museum into a place only for very young kids is a huge loss for Iceland. Kids don't just want bright colours anyway, they love finding out that seagulls spit vomit or how massive creatures get. In my opinion the difference between a museum and a display is education. So if we aren't learning anything (even the scientific names of the animals) then can it still call itself a museum?
I'm really sorry to leave this review. The library is brilliant, the staff are excellent...but it's a real shame this happened. Give us knowledge please!!

Sehr tolles Museum mit vielen Ausstellungsstücken. Leider ist das Meiste auf isländisch aber für mich hat das alleinige anschauen gereicht!
Es sind auch Aquarien mit lebenden Fischen vorhanden, und diese sehen wirklich sehr schön aus.

Sehr kleines Museum man kommt mit dem Bus sehr gut hin und man kann dort viel über die Tiere Islands Lernen leider ist das meiste nur auf Islandisch.
Der Eintritt in das Museum ist Kostenlos.
Über dem Museum ist eine schöne Bibliothek wo man sich Bücher ausleihen kann.

I went there for a storytelling event for kids, but I failed because the event was not that day but next week. The staff there was extremely nice with me helping to check when the event is going to be, and because we were there, they told us to see the museum.
The museum is in the first floor, next to the kids section of the library 📚 and actually it's free 🆓
It's not a big museum, but enough to see different animals of Iceland. There are aquariums with fishes 🐡🐠and videos of the diffe, I think the visit was worthy.
And as I said, the staff is super nice! 😌

Interesting animal and geological exhibits but the museum itself is very small. Free entrance.
