The cafe is charming, set up against a rock wall with glass roof bringing the outdoors in, without the weather. Food at the cafe was authentic, well plated and delicious. Mashed fish w rye bread was delicate in texture and taste. Fish soup was best I have had. Wanted to try the horse, may have to come back. Museum audio tour was enjoyable, doing a great job of bringing Aegils Saga to where you were standing. An hour plus well spent. Mix of audio and video. Lots of authentic or period correct works mixed with artistic interpretation or handiwork to help tell the story and provide a gallery experience along with the museum. Audio tour available in several languages being broken into 2 stages was the right way to do it. Staff were welcoming. The settlement centre was a wonderful surprise and a must do if you are in or pass through Borgarnes and want an authentic Iceland experience.

One of my favorite parts of visiting the Settlement Center was how peaceful the whole area felt. After exploring the exhibits, you can take a stroll around the town and along the waterfront, enjoying the fresh air and scenic beauty. The town itself is charming, with colorful houses and a peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to relax after learning about Iceland’s early history.

A simple souvenir ship and restaurant above. A nice little visit with views and some statues. If you have time, stop on by, but IMHO is not a place that is a must do on the Ring Tour.
